As far as the eye could see, a white expanse stretched in all directions, dead flat, save for the scars of crevasse fields. Following a smooth landing, Lennie, Lou and myself climbed down from the plane, offloaded our sledges, and after a swift handshake with the Scott team, they departed for McMurdo Sound. The three of us were left to prepare ourselves for the journey ahead…”
