“…At 1pm today, we loaded our heavy sledges into the DC3 plane and set off for a frozen coastline 4 and half hours away. From 10,000 ft the view across the Ross Ice Shelf was humbling. As far as the eye could see, a white expanse stretched in all directions, dead flat, save for the scars of crevasse fields. Following a smooth landing, Lennie, Lou and myself climbed down from the plane, offloaded our sledges, and after a swift handshake with the Scott team, they departed for McMurdo Sound. The three of us were left to prepare ourselves for the journey ahead…”
