by Mark Langridge
Today’s update is from Scott team leader Mark Langridge, on a poignant day for all the guys out there. 100 years ago to the day (Nov 1), Scott’s men embarked on their fateful journey to the South Pole.

Our Lady’s Abingdon was absolutely delighted to have been mentioned by Mark from outside Scott’s hut yesterday and the audio report will be played in assembly on Monday when we read out Scott’s own extract for 7 November. 100 years ago next Monday there was a massive blizzard so we hope the Scott team today will not experience similar conditions (though from looking at the webcam just now the weather looks glorious.) Tell the guys that we will let them know when we’ve replicated Scott’s hut and built the sledge! All the best from everyone at OLA.
Hello Alison – Please listen to Lou Rudd’s message also! http://scottamundsenrace.org/2011/11/04/the-race-day-2/
As a whole school initiative school we are following Scott’s expedition in “real” time by reading out extracts from Scott’s diary once a week during assembly, having started yesterday with the first extract written on 1 November. We have had PSHE extended sessions on the background to the journey, the Art Department is attempting to recreate the inside of Scott’s hut and D and T is going to build a replica sledge. We will also be following with interest today’s centenary race and hope to post a visual update of your progress. Good luck!
Hi Alison,
I am Wendi, Mark’s wife, and I know he will be thrilled to hear what you are doing. I will tell him when he phones home on Sunday. Have fun. Best regards Wendi
