Report submitted October 26 @ 1:13am local (Chile Day 9/10 )
The Polar Medal awarded to Captain Oates, which we are privileged to be carrying on the journey, has caused some local interest.
We gave an interview to local newspaper today and a further article will run in a Santiago paper shortly.
It is an enormous honour to be entrusted with such an important item so closely linked to an act that epitomises with great clarity, a poignant and powerful demonstration of sacrifice, duty and tangible heroism.
There is no doubt that when the days ahead demand our all, merely a touch of this iconic talisman will drive us on to finish the task.

Big shame about the weather lads.
Don’t go stir crazy…or native..
Fingers crossed that you get going soon.

Great update Henry and glad to hear morale is high in spite of the lengthy and unexpected delay for you all. It would be fun if you could use the time to keep a diary? About to take six children to ‘snakes and ladders’, and actually find myself thinking it might be preferable to be in wet and windy Punta Arenas! Much love. x
