Little to Report from Punta Arenas

Submitted on October 22th @ 10:17pm local time (Chile Day 6)

Travellers in these regions will be all too familiar with the vagaries of the weather systems – and these last few days are no different. We wait patiently, but the first flight has yet to leave. On board that one will be a team of Norwegians who are aiming to travel the Amundsen route and arrive at the Pole on 14 December – time is still on their side but the margin for further delay is closing.

It is worth looking at their website at: http://southpole2011.net

Thankfully we are not shackled to a particular date although it would be wonderful of the Scott team could reach the Pole on 17 January which marks the centenary date of Captain Scott’s arrival.

Lou Rudd (Amundsen team) reports tonight for 23 October.
